Looking for someone to help design and FEA a beam that supports a sawmill carriage.
Spans [url removed, login to view] and is simply supported at both ends but no support anywhere else, and not mid-span.
Supports a carriage that rolls along the beam. This carriage weighs approximately 80kgs, so the beam needs to support this and it's own weight.
Cannot deflect any more than 3mm.
Because the sawmill is portable, the beam needs to be light enough for one person to carry. This could be achieved two ways; either very lightweight, stiff composite like carbon fibre, or the beam can be two pieces so that each piece is light enough to carry. If two pieces, it needs have a very good jointing method that will not distort in use.
Before we commit to prototyping the beam, we need to have it modelled so we have confidence it will work.
