An aircraft needs to be at a particular speed to reach the blue skies that speed comes from engines of an aircraft. In this project I’ll be analysing the evaluation of aircraft engines that from just low performance piston engines it has come to supersonic jet engines, there has been increased interest in recent years to further develop measurable reliability models of the jet engine in order to improve system reliability, reduce system failures and reduce maintenance costs.
To analyse the changes aircraft engines have made from first powered flight till now.
1. This project upon completion will provide a great insight of jet engines in a technical manner.
2. The performance difference between old and new engines.
3. Solid works model of old piston engine like rolls Royce merlin and a modern jet engine like GE 90.
4. A reliability check on new generation engines compare to old ones.
I’ll start it off by collecting technical and theoretical data of old piston engines and modern jet engines then comparing these both in the sense of performance, cost, maintenances, reliability and fuel consumption that piston engines were less powerful as compare to today’s modern jet engines, but these piston engines are more efficient in converting heat energy into mechanical energy but only on small scale that’s why still small aircrafts like Cessna 152 or Cessna piper uses piston engines, but when it comes to bigger jets we need jet engines to perform the job , after comparing these result mathematically and theoretically , I’ll be modelling two engines on solid works that’ll show us visually how they have transformed by the time.
