I am working on a house from 1806 I am a carpenter. I sistered up some 2x10 Douglass fir #2 grade joists to the old 2x6 joists at about 13’ 3” and my span chart from my 2015 IRC book says it can do 14’. I have 2 rooms like this. Only one room had a header. As you can see from the pictures I put squash blocking in between all the old joists so I had a ledger to attach and hang my new 2x10 joists from.
