Deskripsi Kontes

Duke of Uke is a ukulele specialist store based in London, UK. We're looking for a brand new logo for the company that incorporates some of our old brand identity but that will give us a fresh look for digital.

The logo should be bold and simple. And it should ideally be versatile enough to be presented in landscape and 1:1 formats for digital use. In essence it should give us a sense of the history of the ukulele and its origin, vintage Hawaii, Hawaiian fauna, sun, sea, surf, beach lifestyle, 1920s, 1930s, 1950s etc.

The original D logo (attached) was an attempt to capture a sense of vintage Hawaii, through the representation of laurel-like fauna in a playful heart wreath/Hawaiian lei. We tried to make it more robust and give it a sense of regal heritage by representing it as though it had been cast in iron. Our inspiration was the coat of arms reference pic "Ref-coat-of-arms-hawaiian-islands-vintage" attached. However the D-logo was always problematic because it never sat very well with the rest of the text "Duke of Uke".

We would like to retain the text characters for "Duke of Uke" as much as possible, and have the logo built around the text, to 'package' it somehow. The reference pic "Duke-of-Uke-Logo-Sun-Outline-01” is probably the closest we’ve come to packaging it in a way that we liked, but we didn’t want to use this crow motif and we also thought it wasn't simple enough. We also especially liked the reference pics “Ref-Hawaii-Type-Faces” and “Ref-Fraulini-Guitar-Logo” (by Robert Crumb) for the way they successfully package the logo text.

FYI we have a tagline "World Famous Ukulele Store" which can be used in the logo but doesn't necessarily need to be.
