My business, "Discipulum", will be centered around education and software. I would be providing software for learning things such as microbiology, and services such as remote use of

radio/visual telescopes. I need an Ancient Greek-themed icon, suitable for an education business. A minimalist design would be preferred. A grey/silver color scheme is also preferred. I have no

real ideas for a starting point, besides the font I intend to use for text with the icon:

Please note the following:

First, I NEED a motif that inspires feelings of ancient Greece. This means quills and tablets. It means mural drawings. It means geometric, and math-based designs/patterns. It does not mean

computer chips, or other such imagery. You are not prohibited from submitting such work if that is all you can do, but your chances of winning, unless the work is EXCEPTIONALLY WELL

DONE, are very slim.

Second, I would really prefer you not include the text as a required part of the logo. The freelancer, karmenflorea, has submitted an example of what I mean.
Her work requires that the logo be presented with the text, which may not always be what I want. If the quill were displayed in a grayish box, and the ink and quill were a "cut-out" with an internal

shadow, that would look extremely sharp. It would also allow me to present my logo with most of the images real-estate being the quill and ink. This would allow the image to be viewed on mobile

phones for instance, allowing someone who might have poor eyesight to make out the image of the quill. The version with the text means the reverse: The text is the most prominent feature, and

would lay claim to more pixels of a display. On mobiles, the quill will be much less defined, and I might as well just display my name. Images stick in the mind better, so that's the whole reason

for assuming a logo in a business: brand identification. Please try to stick to stand alone logo's which are isolated from the text of my business.
Again, you may submit such logo's but they have a lower chance of winning. KarmenFlorea's entries (#51 and #52) are exceptional, and are actually a top pick for me right now, but it's going to

be harder to make work. I may choose another design simply for this reason.

Third, please do not ask me to check your design in the comments section. I WILL without exception be looking at each entry. There is no need to remind me. If I have not rated your entry over time, it is because I am unable to access the internet, being either at work, or stuck somewhere else. As long as you have not apparently drawn your entry with crayons during your recess break, I will, without fail, rate and provide feedback on your entry. :P

Also, one more note. I am seeing a lot of insanely good work on here. I realize people are pooring a lot of effort into their work, and it can be dis-heartening to see your work not get accepted.

Basically....you are making me feel guilty. What to do....what to do? How do I clear my conscience? I know!
I will be offering runner up prizes! It's not formally implemented by the site creators, so I will be doing it myself.

First prize gets the full $100 prize.

Right now, KarmenFlorea, ShanzaeDezigns, sonu2401, AlphaCeph, and KatouBeaudoin are some of the top designs (though not necessarily in that order.)

Everyone's submissions have been greatly appreciated. I did NOT expect to get 10 entries, much less 163. But, I am afraid there has to be one winner. I have chosen #20 by Attebasile. This work was exactly what I was looking for and this artist nailed it to the wall. I initially had concerns about the origin of the work, but that issue was cleared up. As I promised, I will be naming runners-up, and here they are:
